Premia Mortgage, a Troy, Michigan, mortgage company whose biggest markets are in Texas, makes large conventional loans for home purchases in 49 states.
Purchases made up 97.2% of its 1,726 loans in 2025. It lent in 267 metros, and Texas is its main state: Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington are its largest markets, followed by Charlotte and Atlanta. In Houston it ranks 166 of 929 lenders.
Its typical loan was $425,000, against $315,000 at similar lenders (independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans), larger than at about four in five of them. Conventional loans made up 80.3% of the total and loans guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs 11.9%. Only 7.8% were insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), against 22.8% at peers.
Only 1.6% of its borrowers had low or moderate incomes, against 28.5% at similar lenders, one of the lowest shares in the group. Its share of loans in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, 7.2%, was also lower than peers' 19.2%. Its larger loans and small FHA share could account for much of this, as could its focus on purchase loans across large metros.
Its typical rate was 6.25%, against 6.62% at similar lenders, lower than at about nine in ten of them. Only 0.1% of its loans were higher-priced (a rate well above the average for similar loans), against 2.4% at peers.
