What Are Cookies?

Jenner Analytics uses cookies on our websites, applications, and services. They help us understand how you use our Platform and improve your experience.

  • Cookies: Small text files downloaded onto your device by web servers. They store information about your preferences and activity to enhance your browsing experience.

We no longer embed a tracking pixel of our own. The one we used to carry — a LinkedIn image pixel in every page, which fired whether or not you had answered our banner — has been removed. If you accept advertising cookies, the LinkedIn Insight Tag described below still causes your browser to send a tracking request to LinkedIn; refusing, or withdrawing later, stops it.

This notice covers our web Platform, including jenneranalytics.com and the workspace subdomain where notebooks run. The Jenner for macOS desktop application does not use cookies and does not embed analytics or advertising SDKs — see Section 10 of our Privacy Policy.

Types of Cookies We Use

1. Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for the Platform to function properly. They enable core features such as security, authentication, and accessibility. Without these cookies, certain services cannot be provided.

These include access_token and refresh_token, which keep you signed in, and cookie_consent, which records the choice you make on our cookie banner. When you open a workspace we also set jupyter_session, which keeps that workspace session alive, and the notebook server running inside your workspace sets _xsrf, which protects it against cross-site request forgery. All of these are our own cookies, set on our own domains, and none of them is used for advertising.

These cookies cannot be disabled as they are essential for the Platform to work.

2. Analytics Cookies

Analytics cookies help us count visits and identify traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our Platform. They show us which pages are most and least popular and how visitors move around the site.

While you are signed out, this information is not linked to a named individual. Once you sign in, we associate analytics activity with your account so that we can support and improve the service for you.

These cookies are set whichever button you choose on our cookie banner. The banner controls advertising cookies only. Our analytics provider, PostHog, sets its ph_ cookie on our own domain, but the events it records are sent to PostHog, who process them for us in the European Union. Our error-monitoring provider, Honeybadger, sets no cookie at all; it sends diagnostics to its own servers in the United States when something goes wrong. Both run on every visit regardless of what you choose on the banner. To stop them, block or delete cookies and scripts for this site in your browser.

3. Functionality Cookies

Functionality cookies allow the Platform to remember choices you make so it looks the way you left it. We set one: sidebar:state, which remembers whether you collapsed the navigation sidebar.

Two other preferences are kept in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, and clearing site data removes them along with the cookies. Your light or dark theme stays on your device and is never sent to us. Your language choice is stored there too, but it is also part of the web address — Japanese pages sit under /ja and Korean under /ko — so, like any page address, it reaches our servers and our analytics provider each time you load a page.

4. Advertising Cookies

These cookies may be set through our Platform by our advertising partners. They may be used to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant advertisements on other sites. They work by uniquely identifying your browser and device.

We do not set advertising cookies unless you accept them on our cookie banner.

Third-Party Services

These are the third-party services that load in your browser when you use our web Platform, and what each one stores there. Each receives only what it needs for the purpose described.

PostHog — product analytics

PostHog tells us how the Platform is used: which pages are visited, which features are used, and how many people complete signup. It is hosted in the European Union. PostHog sets a cookie whose name begins with ph_. See the PostHog privacy policy.

Honeybadger — error monitoring

Honeybadger records technical details when something goes wrong, so we can find and fix it. Reports include the page address and browser information. Honeybadger is operated in the United States. See the Honeybadger privacy policy.

LinkedIn Insight Tag — advertising

The LinkedIn Insight Tag measures the results of our advertising and allows LinkedIn to show our ads to people who have visited our site. This tag loads only after you accept cookies on our banner, and stops loading as soon as you withdraw that acceptance. See the LinkedIn privacy policy.

Google Ads — advertising

The Google Ads tag measures which visits followed one of our ads, so we can tell which advertising is worth paying for. Unlike the LinkedIn tag it loads on every page, and what changes when you answer the banner is what it is permitted to do. Until you accept cookies on our banner it runs in Google’s consent mode: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and sends no identifier that could single you out. Accepting lifts that restriction. Withdrawing restores it and deletes what was stored. What it writes once you have accepted — cookies whose names begin _gcl_ or _gac_, and an ad-click record it keeps in your browser’s local storage under _gcl_ls — differs from LinkedIn’s in one way that matters to you: it is stored on our own domain, so withdrawing deletes them outright instead of leaving them to expire. When you complete a sign-up after accepting, it also sends Google a one-way scrambled form of the email address you signed up with, so Google can match that sign-up to the ad you clicked when the cookies above cannot — if you clicked on your phone and signed up on your laptop, or if the cookie had already expired. The scrambling happens in your browser: Google receives the scrambled value and never the address itself, and cannot turn it back. If you have not accepted, nothing is sent. Paddle — payments

Paddle is our payment provider and acts as merchant of record for web subscriptions. Its scripts load only on billing pages, when you are subscribing or managing a subscription. See the Paddle privacy policy.

Vimeo — video

The product video on our home page is hosted by Vimeo. The player does not load, and Vimeo sets no cookie, until you click play — if you never start the video, it never runs. Once you do, Vimeo sets its own cookies on its own domain, which our banner cannot control. See the Vimeo privacy policy.

Google reCAPTCHA — bot protection

reCAPTCHA protects our contact form and our legal document download from automated abuse. Its script loads as soon as one of those pages opens — our home page and our legal documents page — for everyone who opens them, before you touch a form, and it sets a _GRECAPTCHA cookie on Google's domain. Our banner does not gate it: it is a security control rather than analytics or advertising. See the Google reCAPTCHA privacy policy.

Two things sit outside this list because they are not services we load to watch you. If you sign in with Google, GitHub or Microsoft, your browser goes to that provider to authenticate you, and we then show the profile picture they give us from their own image servers. Both happen because you chose that sign-in method.

You have control over cookie usage on the Platform:

  • Cookie Banner: When you first visit our Platform, you'll see a cookie consent banner. Choosing "Reject Advertising" prevents advertising cookies from being set; choosing "Accept All" allows them. Neither button affects the analytics and error-monitoring cookies described above
  • Browser Settings: Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can set your browser to refuse cookies or delete certain cookies
  • Opt-Out Tools: Many advertising networks provide opt-out mechanisms for targeted advertising
