MortgageOne, a California mortgage company, nearly doubled its lending in 2025 while moving away from the veterans' loans that once made up most of its business.
It made 1,694 loans in 2025, up from 886, a rise of 91%. Similar lenders (independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans) grew by 5%, and the whole market by 10%. Its record has swung before: 790 loans in 2021, then 382 in 2023.
Loans guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) were 64.4% of its lending five years earlier and 43.1% in 2024. In 2025 they were 20.2%, still about three times its peers' share. Conventional loans rose to 55.7%.
It ranks 73 of 639 lenders in San Diego, its home market, where its share rose from 0.2% to 0.3%. It entered Kahului, Cheyenne and non-metro Nevada in 2025. In Redding, where it ranks 6 of 249, its share slipped from 5.2% to 4.5%. One possible reason is that its growth went to bigger markets and new states rather than to Redding.
Its typical loan is $395,000, against $315,000 at similar lenders. Home purchases make up 78.0% of its lending. More of its loans than at about two-thirds of its peers are in majority-minority neighborhoods, 35.2% against 26.2%.
