BoxCar Mortgage, a Georgia lender that first reported in 2021, has nearly tripled its lending since then, to 3,018 loans in 2025, most of them home purchases.
Its loans rose 25% in 2025, against 12% at similar lenders (independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans) and 10% across the whole market. That was faster than about seven in ten of them. The climb began in 2023: it made 1,028 loans in 2022 and 2,417 in 2024.
Home purchases made up 86.6% of its loans. Loans guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) were 14.2% of the total, against 6.5% at similar lenders, a higher share than about nine in ten of them. Its share of loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), 21.3%, was close to theirs.
Atlanta is its largest market, where it ranked 23 of 892 lenders; United Wholesale Mortgage and Rocket Mortgage lead there. It now lends in 40 states and 201 metros, and in 2025 it entered non-metro Arizona, New York and Santa Rosa. In Colorado Springs, which it entered in 2023, it held 0.8% of the market.
It denied 2.8% of home-purchase applications, against 4.2% at similar lenders, and 5.3% of refinance applications, against 5.9%. The purchase rate is lower than at about seven in ten of its peers; the refinance rate is near the middle.
