A sharp retreat
Its loans fell 40% in 2025, while similar lenders (national banks making between half and twice as many loans) grew 2% and the whole market 10%. The fall began earlier: 320 loans in 2023, then 80 in 2024. Only about one in twenty-five peers shrank faster. Part of the fall may be a return from the unusually busy years of 2020 to 2022, when it made between 352 and 448 loans a year; in 2018 it made 130. But 48 is far below even that, and the figures do not show whether the bank chose to make fewer home loans.
