Legacy Bank, a Virginia bank, has more than doubled its lending since 2021, to 82 loans, much of it in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.
Loans rose 30% in 2025, from 63, while similar lenders (banks of the same type making between half and twice as many loans) grew 8%. In 2021 it made 33. It filed no report for 2022, so that year is a gap in the record. It took its present name, from Grundy National Bank, in 2020.
Some 41.5% of its loans went to low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods, against 16.4% at similar lenders, higher than at more than nine in ten of them. LMI borrowers took 33.3% of its loans, against 27.1%. Its largest markets lie outside metros, in West Virginia and Virginia; in non-metro West Virginia it ranks 59 of 299.
Manufactured homes made up 11.0% of its loans, against 2.1% at similar banks, a higher share than at more than four in five of them. Its typical loan, $120,000, was smaller than at more than four in five similar banks, whose typical loan was $175,000. Home purchases made up 70.7% of its lending.
