Lending to lower-income borrowers
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 43.9% of its loans, against 27.8% at similar lenders, credit unions making between half and twice as many loans. That is more than at about nine in ten of them. Yet only 10.7% of its loans went to LMI neighborhoods, against 16.3% at peers. One possible reason is where it lends: 21 counties in one state, which may hold fewer such neighborhoods.
