First Technology Federal Credit Union lends larger amounts than nearly all similar credit unions, and its originations rose 24% in 2025, faster than most of them.
Jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 17.4% of its lending, against 1.7% at similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans), higher than nearly all. Its typical loan was $225,000, against $105,000, and its dollar total of $1.55 billion is higher than about nine in ten. Every loan was conventional.
Originations rose 24% to 4,168, higher than nearly nine in ten peers, whose typical growth was 8%; the whole market grew 10%. It is still well below 10,420 in 2020.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 11.9% of its loans, against 27.5%, among the lowest few, and LMI tracts 9.7%, among the lowest tenth. Majority-minority tracts took 21.7%, against 9.1%, higher than about three in four. A jumbo-heavy book and large West Coast metros such as Portland, Seattle and San Jose, where it ranks 15 of 566, 31 of 597 and 47 of 459, are possible reasons.
Its denial rate on first-lien home-purchase applications was 1.9%, against 6.6%, and on refinances 8.2%, against 18.9%: both among the lowest tenth. Its typical rate of 7.38% is higher than about three in four peers, perhaps reflecting home-improvement loans, 28.4% of its lending.
