The National Bank of Blacksburg is the third-largest lender in its home market and grew its loans by a quarter in 2025, far faster than similar banks.
In Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford it ranks 3 of 233, behind Alcova Mortgage and Skyline National Bank. Its share there slipped from 6.0% to 5.4%, perhaps because rivals grew faster in the market or because more of its own growth came elsewhere. In Roanoke its share doubled, from 0.3% to 0.6%.
It made 261 loans, 25% more than in 2024. Similar lenders, meaning national banks making between half and twice as many loans, grew 5%, and the whole market 10%. Its growth was faster than at about five in six peers. Its merger with Frontier Community Bank in 2024 may account for some of the rise. It is still below the 420 loans of 2020.
Its typical loan of $175,000 is lower than the peers' $205,000. Low- and moderate-income borrowers took 31.9% of its loans, against 25.4% at peers, a higher share than at about seven in ten. Manufactured homes were 6.5% of its lending, against 1.4% at peers.
Purchases made up 53.6% of its loans and refinances 28.7%. The rest, nearly a fifth, were home-improvement and other loans. Almost all were conventional.
