Starion Bank, based in Bismarck, held its lending steady in 2025 while similar banks grew, and it makes larger loans at lower rates than most of them.
Its share of the Bismarck market rose to 5.5% from 3.7%, putting it 5 of 145 lenders; Gate City Bank leads there. Shares here are measured in dollars, so a few large loans can move them. In Fargo its share fell to 1.7% from 2.7%. It may have put more of its lending into Bismarck, or rivals may have grown faster in Fargo; the data do not say which.
It made 219 loans, 1% fewer than in 2024, while similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans) grew 9%. Its count has barely moved since 2023 and sits well below the 564 of 2020.
