Lending where minorities live
Two in five of its loans (41.5%) went to census tracts where most residents belong to minority groups. At the typical similar lender, meaning a savings institution making between half and twice as many loans, the figure was 5.6%. That puts SouthStar Bank above almost all of its 147 peers. Its share in poorer neighborhoods (low- and moderate-income, or LMI, tracts) was 18.0%, close to theirs.
