River Valley AgCredit is a small rural lender in Kentucky and Tennessee whose 51 loans in 2025 were all conventional, most of them for home purchases.
Every loan was conventional, with no government backing, against 91.2% at similar lenders, independent non-banks making between half and twice as many loans. Purchases were 60.8% of its loans and other purposes 15.7%. Its typical loan has grown to $285,000 from $155,000 five years before, a little above peers' $255,000.
Its biggest markets are non-metro Kentucky and non-metro Tennessee. In Paducah it ranked 32 of 164 lenders, with a share of 0.6%, up 0.2 points. It made no loans in majority-minority neighborhoods, against 39.0% at similar lenders, and 4.3% in low- and moderate-income (LMI) tracts, against 18.5%. Lending concentrated in rural counties, where such neighborhoods may be scarce, is one possible reason. Its small number of loans is another, since one or two loans move these shares.
Loans fell 23% to 51, while similar lenders held steady (0%) and the whole market grew 10%. Swings of that size run through its record: 61 loans in 2020, 41 in 2021, 66 in 2024. On so few loans, a single year's fall says little about direction.
