Premier Lending, a non-bank lender based in Burlingame, California, whose biggest state is Minnesota, grew by nearly a quarter in 2025, far faster than similar lenders, and lends more to lower-income borrowers than most of them.
Loans rose 24% to 888, against 2% for similar lenders (independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans) and 10% for the whole market. That was faster than about four in five of them. The lender is still well short of the 1,852 loans it made in 2020; the record does not show why the later years were smaller.
Purchases made up 82.3% of its loans and refinances 17.6%. Loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) have climbed from 6.7% of the book five years ago to 25.5%, a little above the 21.8% at similar lenders. The typical loan, $295,000, is smaller than theirs.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 37.6% of its loans, against 26.7% at similar lenders, more than at about four in five of them. Poorer neighborhoods took 23.9%, against 18.1%. Few applicants were turned down: 1.4% of home-purchase applications, against 3.2% at the typical similar lender.
It lends in 27 states and 90 metros, but holds 0.1% of most of its largest markets, including Phoenix and Minneapolis-St. Paul. Its firmest foothold is Santa Rosa-Petaluma, where it has lent since 2017 and ranks 35 of 330 lenders with 0.6% of the market.
