Nationwide Mortgage Bankers, a New Jersey home-purchase lender that now reaches 42 states, grew a little faster than its peers in 2025 and lends more than most in poorer and minority neighborhoods.
Purchases made up 76.5% of its 3,929 loans. It lends in 42 states and 181 metros, with New York its main state, and ranks 18 of 802 lenders in the New York metro. In 2025 it entered Yakima, Hot Springs and rural South Dakota.
Its loans rose 14%, against 10% at similar lenders (independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans) and in the whole market. It is still well below its 2021 peak of 7,532 loans. Its dollar volume, $1.89 billion, matched 2020's with fewer loans, because its typical loan has grown to $465,000.
Some 26.8% of its loans went to low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, more than at nine in ten similar lenders, where the share is 19.1%. Majority-minority neighborhoods took 42.5%, against 24.8%. Its borrowers also had low or moderate incomes more often than peers', at 35.9% against 28.0%.
It denied 1.4% of refinance applications, lower than at more than nine in ten similar lenders, where the rate is 6.7%. Its purchase denial rate, 4.5%, was close to peers' 4.1%.
