Mortgage Center L.C, a Michigan lender that has filed since 1991, grew its loans by more than half in 2025, far faster than similar lenders.
Its loans rose 56% to 2,562. Similar lenders (non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans) grew 7%, and the whole market 10%; fewer than one in ten peers grew faster. It has not regained its peak of 4,576 loans in 2021, but 2025 was its best year since 2022.
Its typical loan was $205,000, smaller than at any of its 16 peers, whose typical loan was $315,000. Purchases made up only 54.1% of its loans; refinances took 22.5% and other-purpose loans 22.2%. Nearly all were conventional, 95.6% against 68.3% for peers, so it makes few government-backed loans.
In Kalamazoo it ranked 12 of 281 lenders, and its share rose from 1.6% to 1.8%. In Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood its share doubled to 0.4%. It has lent in both since 1991, and Michigan is its main state.
Low- and moderate-income borrowers took 32.1% of its loans, more than at about four in five similar lenders. Majority-minority neighborhoods took 6.7%, against 33.4% for peers. One possible reason is where it lends: beyond Detroit, its main markets include non-metro Michigan, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. Its denial rates on purchases and refinances were close to its peers'.
