Bond Street Mortgage, a New Jersey purchase lender, makes bigger loans than most of its rivals and is reaching into new states even as its volume slipped in 2025.
It made 666 loans, down 14% from 775. Similar lenders, independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans, grew 1%, and the whole market grew 10%. One possibility is that effort went into new ground: it entered Hickory, Staunton and Providence in 2025 and now lends in 16 states.
Its typical loan was $475,000, against $335,000 at similar lenders, larger than at nearly nine in ten of them. In 2020 its typical loan was $345,000. Purchases made up 81.5% of its lending, and most loans were conventional rather than government-backed.
The share of its borrowers with low or moderate incomes rose from 16.5% to 22.9%, close to the 24.6% at similar lenders. It made 36.9% of its loans in majority-minority neighborhoods, more than about two-thirds of similar lenders.
In the New York metro it ranked 97 of 802 lenders. In Trenton-Princeton it ranked 81 of 365, but its share fell from 0.4% to 0.2%. Its smaller volume is one plausible reason; the spread of its lending to other states is another. Rocket Mortgage led Trenton, ahead of United Wholesale Mortgage.
