A veterans' lender
Loans guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) made up 51.2% of its book, against 4.1% at the typical similar lender (independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans). Loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) added 30.1%. Conventional loans, the staple of its peers, were under a fifth. Almost all of its loans, 94.5%, were for buying a home.
