Winter Hill Bank is a Somerville savings bank that makes large loans yet lends to more lower-income borrowers than most similar lenders.
Its typical loan was $470,000, against $245,000 at similar lenders, savings institutions making between half and twice as many loans. Jumbo loans, larger than the conforming limit, were 10.2% of its lending, against 2.4%. Purchases made up 61.1% of its loans, all of them conventional.
