West Texas National Bank grew its mortgage lending by a quarter in 2025 and gained share in all three of its West Texas metro markets, Midland, Odessa and Lubbock.
The bank made 85 loans in 2025, up from 68, a rise of 25%. Similar lenders, national banks making between half and twice as many loans, grew 6%, and the whole market 10%. It grew faster than about seven in ten of them. It filed no report for 2021, a gap in the record rather than a year without loans.
Its share of the Odessa market rose from 0.1% to 0.5%, placing it 36th of 196 lenders. In Midland and Lubbock it doubled, from 0.2% to 0.4%. DHI Mortgage Company leads both Midland and Odessa. The shares are small, but they moved the same way in all three.
It bought 25 loans from other lenders in 2025, where the typical similar lender bought none. Home purchases made up 58.8% of the loans it originated, and every loan was conventional.
Almost half its loans, 48.2%, went to majority-minority neighborhoods, against 7.7% at similar lenders. Yet only 5.9% went to low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods, among the lowest tenth of its peers. Its share of loans to LMI borrowers, 20.4%, is near the middle. So most of its loans in majority-minority neighborhoods were in areas that are not low-income, which may simply reflect where its customers live in the markets it serves.
