Sunrise Family Credit Union, a Bay City lender, grew its loans by a fifth in 2025, with more of its lending in nearby Saginaw and Midland.
It made 61 loans, up 20% from 51, faster than the 7% of similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans). Some of the gain came from next door. Its share rose from 0.0% to 0.2% in Saginaw and from 0.0% to 0.3% in Midland, where it now ranks 44 of 175.
Bay City, where it has lent since 1993, remains its largest market. It ranks 23 of 172 lenders there, with a share that slipped from 1.3% to 1.1%. Rocket Mortgage leads. A small fall alongside gains next door may simply mean more of its lending went elsewhere.
Home purchases made up 37.7% of its loans, but home improvement took 29.5%, refinances 23.0% and other purposes 9.8%. All its loans were conventional. Its typical loan, $85,000, was a little smaller than the $95,000 of similar lenders, which fits a mix with so many improvement loans.
Its typical rate was 5.75%, down from 6.75% and lower than at more than nine in ten similar lenders, whose typical rate was 6.75%. Only 1.6% of its loans were higher-priced, a rate well above the average for similar loans, against 3.1% for its peers. Low- and moderate-income borrowers took 32.8% of its loans, near the middle of its peers.
