Michigan Legacy Credit Union more than doubled its lending in 2025, to 110 loans, faster than almost every similar credit union.
Its loans rose 156% from 43, more than nearly all similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans), which grew 7%. The record swings: it made 132 loans in 2021, then 64 or fewer in each of the next three years. Refinances were 44.5% of its loans and home improvement 23.6%.
Its typical rate was 4.99%, lower than at almost every peer, against 6.75% at the typical one and 7.50% for its own loans a year before. Just 2.7% of its loans were higher-priced (a rate well above the average for similar loans), down from 14.0%. Which products carried such low rates is an open question.
It lent in nine metros in 2025, entering Grand Rapids and Muskegon for the first time. In Monroe its share rose from 0.0% to 0.3%, 53rd of 225 lenders. Its typical loan was $150,000, against $105,000 at peers.
Low- and moderate-income borrowers took 19.6% of its loans, against 29.6% at peers, lower than about four in five of them. The year before the share was 30.2%; the new loans, larger and spread into new markets, may account for the fall.
