Hyperion Bank, a Philadelphia lender of large purchase loans, grew its lending by 60% in 2025, and most of its loans went to poorer and majority-minority neighborhoods.
It made 67 loans, up from 42, while similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans) grew 9% and the whole market 10%. It grew faster than about nine in ten of them. The rise took it part of the way back to the 96 loans it made in 2022.
Purchases made up 71.6% of its loans. Its typical loan was $445,000, more than double the $170,000 at similar lenders and larger than at more than nine in ten of them. Loans above the conforming limit (jumbo loans) were 8.3%, against 1.7%.
More than half its loans, 55.2%, went to low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods, against 18.5% at similar lenders. Majority-minority neighborhoods took 61.2%, against 6.8%. Both shares are higher than at almost all similar lenders, and both were similarly high in 2024.
Philadelphia, where it has lent since 2009, is its largest market; it ranked 165 of 784 lenders there. Its lending now reaches five states and eight metros, including Atlanta since 2019 and Jacksonville since 2025. In Atlantic City its share rose to 0.2%, ranking it 77 of 423.
