First National Bank Minnesota won a bigger slice of the Mankato market in 2025, even as it made fewer loans.
It ranks 19 of 180 lenders in Mankato, its largest market, and its share rose to 1.5% from 0.9%. United Wholesale Mortgage and Pioneer Bank lead. With fewer loans in all, the gain may come from larger loans, as its typical loan rose to $185,000 from $145,000, or from more of its lending landing in Mankato.
It made 49 loans, down 20% from 61. That fall was steeper than at more than four in five similar lenders (national banks making between half and twice as many loans), which grew 2%; the whole market grew 10%. The year before may have been high: it made 48 loans in 2023. It filed no report for 2020 to 2022, a gap in the record rather than years without lending.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 32.4% of its loans, against 22.5% at peers, more than at about seven in ten of them. Its share in LMI neighborhoods, 16.3%, was near the middle. It made no loans in majority-minority areas; the 12 Minnesota counties it serves may hold few of them.
