First Hope Bank, a National Banking Association lends mostly to people who already own homes: in 2025 home improvement was as large a part of its 80 loans as home purchase.
Owners rather than buyers
Home-improvement and purchase loans were each 30.0% of its originations. Refinancing took 25.0% and other purposes 15.0%. Most of its lending therefore went to existing owners. By volume it sits near the middle of similar lenders, national banks making between half and twice as many loans.
A pause after a long fall
Its loans rose 10% in 2025, to 80 from 73. That matched the whole market and was a little faster than similar lenders' 5%. It follows a steep fall, from 260 in 2020 and 255 in 2021 to 82 in 2023. The figures do not show what drove it.
Few loans in poorer neighborhoods
Only 5.0% of its loans were in poorer neighborhoods (low- and moderate-income, or LMI, tracts), against 16.1% at similar lenders, among the lowest tenth of them. LMI borrowers took 17.4%, lower than about two-thirds of its peers. Both shares have risen since 2020, from 2.3% and 12.9%. The counties it serves may simply hold few lower-income tracts.
Old roots in Allentown
It has lent in the New York and Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton markets since 1990. In Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton it ranked 187 of 521 lenders, with 0.1% of lending, the same as in 2024.
Similar lenders: same lender type, originations between half and twice the lender's in the data year.
