First Carolina Bank, a North Carolina bank, makes big loans to home buyers: its typical loan of $505,000 was larger than at almost all similar lenders, though its 104 loans in 2025 were 10% fewer than a year earlier.
Its typical loan was $505,000. At similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans) it was $175,000. Jumbo loans, those larger than the conforming limit, were 26.7% of its lending against 1.6% at peers, about double the 13.5% of five years earlier. Home purchases made up 72.1% of its loans.

Majority-minority neighborhoods, by contrast, took 18.3% of its loans, more than at about seven in ten similar lenders.
It is lending further from home. In Gainesville, Georgia, which it entered in 2023, it ranked 13th of 336 lenders with 1.7% of the market. In 2025 it made its first loans in Sebastian-Vero Beach, Fayetteville, NC, and Sumter, SC. Its share in Wilmington, NC, fell to 0.3% from 1.2%; with 104 loans spread over 21 metros, a handful moving between markets could account for that.
