ESB Bank, a small Minnesota home-purchase lender, made 81 loans in 2025, 31% more than in 2024, and gained share in La Crosse-Onalaska.
Its loans rose from 62 to 81, while similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans) grew 9%; its rise was higher than about three in four of them. It filed no report for 2020 and 2021, so its record has a gap there.
Home purchases made up 74.1% of its loans and refinances 22.2%, all conventional. Its typical loan, $175,000, was close to the $165,000 at similar lenders.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 50.8% of its loans, against 27.5% at peers, higher than nearly all similar lenders. LMI areas took 11.4%, against 18.6%; the La Crosse and non-metro Minnesota and Iowa markets it serves may explain that.
