Bank Star grew its lending by 43% in 2025, to 43 loans, with much of it in lower-income neighborhoods.
Its loan count rose from 30 to 43, while similar lenders (lenders of the same type making between half and twice as many loans) grew by 2% and the whole market by 10%. Nearly nine in ten of them grew more slowly. It is still below the 65 loans it made in 2023. It filed no report for 2020 to 2022; those years are gaps in the record, not years without lending.
Of its loans, 39.3% were in low- and moderate-income (LMI) census tracts, against 18.6% at similar lenders, more than at about nine in ten of them. LMI borrowers took 35.0%. On 43 loans these are small bases.
Purchases made up 60.5% of its loans and refinances 37.2%. Every loan was conventional. Its typical loan was $135,000, against $165,000 at similar lenders.
It has lent in St. Louis since at least 1990 and ranks 268 of 637 lenders there, in a market led by Guild Mortgage Company and United Wholesale Mortgage. It merged with Bank of Hillsboro in 2018.
