Ambler Savings Bank, a Pennsylvania savings bank, makes far fewer mortgages than it did five years ago, but much bigger ones.
Its typical loan was $375,000 in 2025, up from $225,000 five years before. Similar lenders, savings institutions making between half and twice as many loans, lent a typical $245,000; Ambler's figure was higher than about three in four of them. Jumbo loans, those larger than the conforming limit, made up 16.3% of its lending, against 2.2% at peers.
It made 63 loans, against 188 five years before. The count slipped by 3% in 2025, while similar lenders grew by 2%. Bigger loans made up the difference in money: the amount lent rose to $36.8 million from $30.5 million.
