1st Bank of Sea Isle City lends big sums for a small savings institution: its typical loan is about double that of similar lenders, mostly to buy homes in two New Jersey counties.
Its typical loan was $505,000, against $245,000 at similar lenders (savings institutions making between half and twice as many loans). Jumbo loans, those larger than the conforming limit, made up 29.3% of its lending, against 1.3%, a share among the highest tenth. So although it made fewer loans than about two-thirds of similar lenders, its $30.5 million was more than about seven in ten lent.
