Primis Bank, a Virginia bank, rarely finances home purchases. It makes small refinance and home-improvement loans, buys loans from others, and made 16% more loans in 2025.
Refinances made up 40.5% of its loans, home improvement 30.8% and other purposes 20.5%; purchases were only 8.2%. Its typical loan was $105,000, unchanged from 2024 and 2020. At similar lenders (the same lender type, making between half and twice as many loans) it was $185,000, which puts Primis among the lowest twentieth.
Besides making its own loans, it bought 62 in 2025 and 61 in 2024. The typical similar lender bought none. In 2020 it bought 120. What it buys, and where, is an open question.
It made 195 loans, up 16% from 168, while similar lenders grew 8% and the whole market 10%; it grew faster than about two in three of them. In 2020 it made 123. Its lending spans 7 states and 45 counties, mostly in Virginia, and its share of Richmond is 0.1%.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 34.1% of its loans, against 28.6% at similar lenders, a higher share than at about seven in ten. Its share in LMI neighborhoods, 16.4%, was close to peers' 16.2%. Majority-minority neighborhoods took 11.8%, against 4.4%.
