Preferred Bank, a Los Angeles lender, makes mortgages bigger than almost any similar bank's, and most of them in majority-minority neighborhoods.
Its typical loan was $635,000, against $175,000 at similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans). Jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) made up 19.9% of its lending, against 1.4%. Its dollar volume jumped to $237.7 million from $163.9 million, though its loan count rose only 4%, to 181.

A bank whose typical loan is $635,000 may serve mostly higher-income borrowers. Its markets and product mix could account for much of the gap.
It bought 36 loans from other lenders in 2025 and 37 in 2024. Most similar lenders bought none. Of the loans it made itself, 71.8% were for home purchases.
