PENN EAST Federal Credit Union makes the smallest loans of any similar lender, mostly for home improvement, and its loans rose 60% in 2025.
Its typical loan was $45,000, against $105,000 at similar lenders, credit unions making between half and twice as many loans. No peer's typical loan was smaller. Home improvement took 44.9% of its loans and other purposes 28.5%. Purchases were only 2.5%.
It made 158 loans in 2025, up 60% from 99. Similar lenders grew 8%, so it grew faster than nearly nine in ten of them. It is still below the 239 loans it made in 2021.
