Mercer County State Bank makes some of the smallest loans of any similar bank, and lends more of them to poorer borrowers than most do.
Its typical loan was $75,000, against $175,000 at similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans), lower than at nearly all of them. Home improvement made up 29.6% of its lending, almost as much as purchases, at 30.4%.
