Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union lends mainly to people who already own homes, for improvements and refinancing, and its loans fell 19% in 2025, to 230.
Its originations fell 19%, while similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans) grew 6% and the whole market 10%. Only about one in ten of them did worse. It made 824 loans in 2020 and fewer in every year since.
Home improvement made up 49.1% of its loans and refinancing 36.5%; purchases were 14.3%. All were conventional. Its typical loan was $105,000, the same as at similar lenders and down from $305,000 in 2020.
Majority-minority neighborhoods took 67.4% of its loans, against 11.8% at similar lenders, more than at about nine in ten of them. Its lending in the Los Angeles area may explain that. Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took only 6.2%, against 27.8%, among the lowest of its peers; lending to existing owners rather than buyers may be one reason.
It lent in 10 states and 22 metros, but nowhere in force. It ranks 307 of 757 in Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim and 274 of 707 in Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario.
