Shrinking while others grew
Kearny Bank made 465 loans in 2025, down 13% from 535. Similar lenders, savings institutions making between half and twice as many loans, grew 5%; its change was lower than more than nine in ten of them. In 2020 it made 1,667. The end of the boom in refinancing when rates were low may explain much of that fall: refinances are now just 18.1% of its lending.
