Our analysis, 2025
HomeBank, a Missouri bank, lends mostly to home buyers outside the big metro areas, and in smaller amounts than most similar lenders.
Its two largest markets are non-metro Missouri, where it ranks 75 of 640 lenders, and non-metro Illinois, where it ranks 67 of 572. In St. Louis, IL-MO and Kansas City, KS-MO its share rounds to 0.0%.
Purchases made up 72.2% of its loans and home improvement 10.6%, all of them conventional. Its typical loan was $135,000, against $175,000 at similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans), smaller than at about three in four of them. It made no jumbo loans, those larger than the conforming limit.
It turned down 1.8% of decided first-lien applications to buy an owner-occupied home, against 5.3% at similar lenders, a lower rate than at about nine in ten of them. Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 27.9% of its loans, the same as at its peers. Its share in poorer neighborhoods was lower, 11.0% against 17.4%, which may reflect the rural areas it serves.
Its loans rose 7%, to 227, against 9% at similar lenders and 10% for the whole market. That is less than half the 584 it made in 2020.
