Great Midwest Bank, a Milwaukee-area savings institution, makes big purchase loans and buys loans from other lenders, which few of its peers do.
Its typical loan was $405,000, against $235,000 at similar lenders (savings institutions making between half and twice as many loans), larger than at nearly nine in ten of them. Jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 12.6% of its lending, against 2.5%. Purchases made up 74.7%.
It bought 52 loans from other lenders in 2025, up from 28. The typical similar lender bought none, and it bought more than almost all of them.
It ranks 19 of 510 lenders in Milwaukee-Waukesha, a market it has served since at least 1990, but its share fell to 1.5% from 1.8%. Faster growth by the market's leaders, Landmark Credit Union and Summit Credit Union, may be one reason.
