1st National Bank, a national bank in Lebanon, Ohio, grew faster than most banks of its size in 2025, and lent more of its money to borrowers of modest means than most of them did.
Its loans rose 17% in 2025, to 301. Similar lenders, national banks making between half and twice as many loans, grew by 5%, and the whole market by 10%. The rise ends a long slide. The bank made 1,731 loans in 2020 and only 258 in 2024.
Its typical loan was $275,000, against $185,000 at similar banks, though it made no jumbo loans (those larger than the conforming limit). Its typical rate, 6.38%, was lower than at about nine in ten of them. It turned down few buyers: 0.6% of purchase applications, against 6.0% at its peers.
More than a third of its loans, 36.5%, went to low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers, up from 22.9% in 2024 and higher than at more than four in five peers. Yet only 9.5% went to poorer neighborhoods (LMI tracts), against 16.5% at its peers. The places it serves may simply have fewer such neighborhoods.
Cincinnati is its largest market, and one it has served since at least 1990. It ranked 55 of 621 lenders there, with 0.5% of the market, the same as in 2024. United Wholesale Mortgage led, followed by Union Savings Bank.
