ABNB Federal Credit Union is a Virginia credit union lending mostly for refinances and home improvement, and in 2025 its loans rose 38% while the dollars it lent rose from $41.9 million to $210.1 million.
Its typical loan rose from $65,000 to $145,000, higher than at about three in four similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans), and jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) rose from 4.5% to 9.4%, against 0.6% at peers. A few very large loans or a new product could account for it.
Originations rose 38%, from 374 to 517, against 6% at similar lenders and 10% for the whole market, higher than nearly nine in ten peers. Its refinance denial rate, 2.1%, was among the lowest of its peers, against 20.1%.
Majority-minority areas took 30.6% of its loans, against 10.8% at peers. LMI (low- and moderate-income) borrowers took 16.1%, down from 23.3% and lower than at nearly nine in ten peers; one possible reason is the shift to larger loans, which tend to go to higher-income households.
In Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk, where it has lent since before 1990, it ranked 78 of 577 lenders with 0.2% of the market, against 0.3% in 2024. Its new lending in Baltimore, Dover and Lynchburg in 2025 may explain the dip.
