Technology Credit Union is a San Jose credit union lending mainly for home improvement and refinancing, with a typical loan of $255,000 against $105,000 at similar lenders, and its lending grew 39% in 2025.
Its typical loan was larger than at nearly all similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans), and jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 27.2% of its loans, against 0.8% at peers. Lending more than doubled, to $346.7 million, as the jumbo share rose from 11.9%.
Home improvement was 41.4% of its loans, refinances 32.6%, other purposes 14.8% and purchases 11.3%. It turned down 4.6% of refinance applications, lower than more than nine in ten similar lenders, where the rate was 20.0%.
Originations rose 39% to 684, while similar lenders grew 7% and the whole market 10%. Its total fell from 1,158 in 2022 to 368 in 2023, which higher rates may explain for a lender mainly refinancing and improving homes, and has recovered, though it remains below its 854 loans of 2020.
Its share of San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara rose 0.2 points to 0.6%, ranking 27 of 459 lenders. Majority-minority areas took 70.5% of its loans, against 10.5% at peers, while LMI (low- and moderate-income) borrowers and areas took 16.0% and 8.1%, lower than about nine in ten peers and nearly all of them respectively; the make-up of its home market and its large loans are possible reasons.
