Sidney Federal Credit Union, an upstate New York credit union, grew its loans 62% in 2025 to 1,069, faster than more than nine in ten similar lenders, and gained share in Syracuse, Albany and Utica.
Originations rose from 658 to 1,069, against 8% growth at similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans) and 10% for the whole market. Its dollar total rose to $231.4 million from $131.4 million. It filed no report for 2018 to 2023, so there is no comparable record before 2024; those years are a gap, not years without lending.
It ranked 8 of 246 in Syracuse, with 2.8% against 2.4%. It entered Utica-Rome and Albany-Schenectady-Troy in 2024; in Utica-Rome its share rose 1.6 points to 1.9%, ranking 12 of 174, and in Albany to 0.9%. It ranked 15 of 377 in non-metro New York.
Home purchases were 58.8% of its loans. Its typical loan, $175,000, was larger than at more than eight in ten similar lenders, where it was $105,000. Manufactured homes were 5.8% of its loans, against 0.3%, higher than more than nine in ten.
LMI (low- and moderate-income) areas took 10.7% of its loans, against 15.0%, and majority-minority areas 1.5% against 10.2%, both lower than more than eight in ten similar lenders. Its upstate and non-metro markets are a possible reason; its share of LMI borrowers, 29.9%, was above peers' 27.3%.
