Affinity Federal Credit Union nearly doubled its lending in 2025, growing 87% while similar credit unions grew 10%, though it stayed below its 2020 volume.
Originations rose 87% to 1,920, faster than nearly all similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans), while the whole market grew 10%. Lending by value rose from $166.5 million to $433.7 million. It made 2,240 loans five years before, so 2025 returned it towards that level rather than past it.
Home improvement was 40.6% of its loans and refinance 36.2%, with home purchases 14.9%. Its typical loan, $155,000, was larger than peers' $115,000, and its jumbo (larger than the conforming limit) share was 4.9% against 1.4%. Its typical rate, 4.90%, was lower than at nearly all similar lenders, down from 8.50% a year before.
LMI (low- and moderate-income) borrowers took 19.1% of its loans, against 26.7% at peers, and LMI areas 9.9%, among the lowest tenth. Its larger loans and jumbo share point to borrowers with higher incomes as one possible reason. Its share in majority-minority areas, 23.9%, was about double peers' 11.1%.
It turned down 11.6% of decided first-lien refinance applications on owner-occupied homes, against 20.1% at peers; for home purchases the rate was 6.2%, near peers' 6.3%.
