Valley National Bank, a New Jersey bank lending in 27 states, grew 16% in 2025, faster than the typical similar bank, with larger loans and far more lending in majority-minority areas than most of them.
Originations rose 16% to 3,036, against typical growth of 7% at similar lenders (national banks making between half and twice as many loans) and 10% for the whole market. The amount lent rose from $1.10 billion to $1.69 billion. It made 7,364 loans in 2021.
Its typical loan was $265,000 against $200,000, and jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 8.6% against 1.8%, higher than about four in five similar lenders. Home improvement was 28.0% of its lending. It bought 210 loans from other lenders, while similar lenders typically bought 1. Higher-priced loans (a rate well above the average for similar loans) were 0.6% against 1.3%.
