First Bank made only 64 home loans in 2025, about half as many as five years earlier, yet their $62.4 million total was higher than about nineteen in twenty similar banks: few loans, but large ones.
Similar lenders here are state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans; their typical total was $18.2 million. Jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 29.0% of First Bank's lending, against 1.7% for similar banks. With 64 loans, a handful of large loans can move these figures, as the jump from 7.7% jumbo a year earlier shows.
Originations fell from 128 in 2020 to 58 in 2024 before rising 10% to 64, in line with the whole market's 10%. Mergers since 2014, most recently Malvern Bank in 2023, did not lift the count; these figures do not show why.
Refinance made up 40.6% of its loans and home improvement 21.9%, against 23.4% for purchase. Its share in Trenton-Princeton fell from 1.0% to 0.1%, which could follow from its smaller overall count or from larger lenders there.
Its 20.3% of loans in majority-minority tracts, against a typical 6.8%, was higher than about seven in ten similar banks, which may reflect its New Jersey and Philadelphia-area markets. Too few applications were decided to give it a denial rate.
