A long slide since 2020
Originations have fallen every year since the 291 of 2020 and are now well below the 140 of 2018. The latest drop came while the typical similar lender (a bank of the same type making between half and twice as many loans) grew 9%, leaving it lower than nearly four in five peers on growth. One possibility is that a 2020 wave of refinancing has not been replaced by purchase lending.
