Utah Power Credit Union more than doubled its lending in 2025, regaining the ground it lost in 2024.
It made 298 loans in 2025, up 119% from 136. Similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans) grew 6%, so it grew faster than nearly all of them. Yet 298 is exactly what it made in 2023; 2024 was the odd year. Its busiest year since 2018 was 2021, with 447 loans.
Loans for other purposes made up 52.3% of its lending, with purchases at 24.2% and refinances at 18.5%. All were conventional. Its typical loan, $125,000, was a little above peers' $105,000. Its typical rate, 6.50%, was lower than at about seven in ten peers, and only 0.4% of loans were higher-priced (a rate well above the average for similar loans).
Its strongest positions are outside the cities. It ranks 48 of 349 lenders in non-metro Utah and 87 of 314 in non-metro Wyoming. In Ogden its share rose by 0.1 points. In 2025 it also made its first loans in Santa Maria-Santa Barbara, Visalia and Portland-South Portland.
Only 10.4% of its loans went to poorer neighborhoods (low- and moderate-income, or LMI, tracts), against 15.7% at the typical peer, among the lowest tenth. Its share in majority-minority neighborhoods was 2.4%, against 12.9%. Its rural markets may have fewer such neighborhoods. Its share to LMI borrowers, 24.5%, was nearer the middle.
