Our analysis, 2025
MTCU, a Midland, Texas, credit union, is almost entirely a refinance lender: 94.5% of its 55 loans in 2025 refinanced existing mortgages.
Refinances made up 94.5% of its loans and purchases 5.5%. Every loan was conventional. Its typical loan was $125,000, against $95,000 at similar lenders, credit unions making between half and twice as many loans.
Its typical rate was 5.87%, against 6.75% at similar lenders, lower than at about nine in ten of them. A year earlier it was 5.90%, so the low rate is not a one-year accident.
Some 74.6% of its loans went to neighborhoods where most residents are from minority groups, against 9.7% at similar lenders, more than at all but about one in twenty of them. A year earlier the share was 47.3%. It lends in only three counties, so the share may simply reflect the neighborhoods there.
Midland is its main market. It ranks 35 of 294 lenders there, with a share unchanged at 0.6%; DHI Mortgage Company leads. Its loans held at 55 while similar lenders grew 6%. Its record has a gap: no report for 2023, and only six loans in 2022.
Similar lenders: same lender type, originations between half and twice the lender's in the data year. Written from the 2025 HMDA data and checked figure by figure against it.

Originated means the loan was made: applications denied, withdrawn or not accepted are not counted. Years with no HMDA report from this lender are left out: since 2020 a bank making fewer than 100 closed-end loans a year need not report. MTCU took 60 applications in 2025.
