HAPO Community Credit Union held 2.1% of home lending in Kennewick-Richland, its home market, in both 2024 and 2025, counting the bank it merged with, though its own loan count has fallen by more than half since 2020.
It ranked 10th of 281 lenders in Kennewick-Richland, where it has lent since 1998, with the same 2.1% share as a year earlier. Gesa Credit Union, ranked third, is the one credit union among the five leaders. Its 2025 merger with Community First Bank puts that bank's filings in these market figures, though not in its own loan count, so the merger may explain part of the steady share.
Its Yakima share fell from 1.3% to 0.9%, leaving it 22nd of 216 lenders. A choice to lend less there, or stronger rivals, could each explain the slip.
It made 340 loans, down 7%, while similar lenders, credit unions making between half and twice as many loans, grew 7% and the whole market 10%. Its count peaked at 768 in 2020. No single purpose dominates: refinances were 29.1%, other purposes 28.2%, purchases 25.6% and home improvement 17.1%. All its loans were conventional, and manufactured homes made up 6.2%, more than at nine in ten similar lenders.
It turned down 7.8% of first-lien home-purchase applications, close to the 7.7% typical of similar lenders. Its typical rate, 7.38%, was higher than at about seven in ten of them, which may reflect its home-improvement and other-purpose loans. Yet only 0.6% of its loans were higher-priced (a rate well above the average for similar loans), against 2.0% at similar lenders.
