Compeer Financial, FLCA is a country lender: its two biggest markets are rural Wisconsin and rural Minnesota, and every loan it made in 2025 was conventional.
A country lender
It ranks 17 of 659 lenders in non-metro Wisconsin and 20 of 536 in non-metro Minnesota, far higher than in Minneapolis, where it ranks 101 of 688. That rural footprint may explain why only 0.5% of its loans went to majority-minority neighborhoods, against 26.8% for similar lenders (independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans), and 8.1% to low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, against 19.1%.
No government loans
All its loans were conventional; peers made 22.6% of theirs with insurance from the Federal Housing Administration. Purchases were 74.2% of its loans, with home improvement (9.3%) and other purposes (3.9%) a further slice, and 6.1% were on manufactured homes, against 0.9% for peers. It also bought 107 loans, where most peers bought none.
Smaller loans, higher rates
Its typical loan, $235,000, is smaller than at nine in ten peers. Its typical rate, 7.20%, is higher than at about nine in ten, against 6.62% for peers. Manufactured homes and home-improvement loans often carry higher rates and may account for some of the difference.
Climbing back
Its 1,466 loans were up from 1,122, against growth of 5% for peers and 10% for the whole market. It is still well short of the 2,520 it made in 2020, and has grown for two years after falling to 824 in 2023.
Similar lenders: same lender type, originations between half and twice the lender's in the data year.
