Woori America Bank, a New York bank founded as Korea Commercial Bank of New York, is growing fast and makes large loans, mostly in majority-minority neighborhoods.
It made 401 loans in 2025, up 36% from 295 and nearly triple the 145 of 2023. Similar lenders, state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans, grew 8% at the typical one; its growth was faster than at about nine in ten. It also bought 39 loans from other lenders, which most of its peers do not do.
Its typical loan was $465,000, against $175,000 at the typical peer, larger than at almost all of them. Its $236.6 million of lending was more than at about nine in ten. It lends in 26 metros across nine states, from New York to Los Angeles, and entered Richmond and Athens in 2025.

Only 12.7% of its borrowers had low or moderate incomes, against 28.4% at the typical peer, among the lowest tenth. Its large loans are one possible reason: borrowers who take loans of that size tend to have higher incomes.
